CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS
by Dav Pilkey
Never underestimate the power of underwear! Honestly, if you have a hesitant reader --especially a boy-- try them out on this series. We were surprised to find that it is at the AR 4-5 level because somehow readers who supposedly read at much lower levels frequently check these books out and they certainly figure out what's going on. (Must be the cartoons.)
The principle characters are two 4th Grade boys -- Harold and George -- and the Principle they accidentally hypnotize into becoming Captain Underpants!

CHET GECKO Mystery Series
by Bruce Hale
Ages: Middle-grade and some Tweeners will love this series
Chet Gecko is a 4th grade detective and a comedian with attitude. He's also a lizard! Chet loves two things in life: solving mysteries and devouring dessert. The first book in this entertaining series, THE CHAMELEON WORE CHARTREUSE, introduces us to Chet and his mockingbird partner, Natalie Attired ("nattily attired" --- get it?). It sets a wacky tone --- ridiculous puns, groaner jokes, and bug-filled menus, not to mention mysteries. Throughout the series, the silly synonyms fly faster than a spitwad storm in a substitute teacher's classroom.
