HELLEN KELLER - books at the Eighth Grade reading level

Helen Keller was a remarkable woman.  Born in 1880, she overcame obstacles that were unheard of at that time.  Blind and deaf from a childhood illness, she rose from a tumultuous childhood to become an author, a political activist, a lecturer, and a vaudeville performer.  And not content with those accomplishments she also worked as a tireless advocate and fundraiser for blind and deaf people.   She's a wonderful example of someone who overcame the odds.
