Helen Keller was a remarkable woman.
Born in 1880, she overcame obstacles that were unheard of at that
time. Blind and deaf from a childhood illness, she rose from a
tumultuous childhood to become
an author, a political
activist, a lecturer, and a vaudeville performer. And not content with
those accomplishments she also worked as a tireless advocate and
fundraiser for blind and deaf people. She's a wonderful example of
someone who overcame the odds.

HELEN KELLER: REBELLIOUS SPIRIT
by Laurie Lawlor
**3.92 STARS from 38 GoodReads reviewers**
This
book offers many photos as well as some analysis, in addition to just
facts. I thought it was interesting that one reviewer thought that the
author had a little animosity towards Helen's great teacher, Anne Sullivan.
