At the center of the story is August Pullman, a boy with who was born with a facial deformity so disturbing that the author can't even describe it. And yet, now that August is 10 years old his parents have agreed that he should attempt a mainstream school. So he begins his first year at Beecher Prep, where Auggie wants nothing better than to be treated as a regular kid.
What happens is inspiring. And the reader gets to the see events unfold from first Auggie's and then his classmates and sister.
