Tamora Pierce may be the queen of writers when it comes to writing gripping stories about Girls Who Kick Butt!
In this tale from the lands of Tortall the heroine is a police
officer. Or what passes for one in a medieval setting. The world
building is excellent, and while there is a fantasy element (pigeons
carry the voices of the dead to Beka), it is kept realistic and
reasonable. Highly recommend this YA read. (sexual content here and there)
TERRIER
In
this book, Beka is a rookie 'dog' learning the ropes of how to deal
with 'rats' (criminals) and her new community. Tamora begins some epic
world building and we are introduced to friends and enemies. Good crime
read.
