This is a great YA series from Laura Bickle.
It's a dystopia that has elements of classic horror, and it's a
refreshing read that's quite different from most of the other dystopias
out there.
The
backdrop is modern times... sort of. The main character Kate, you see,
lives in an Amish community. She and her friends are just getting ready
to sample a bit of the modern world, the Rumspringa, when disaster strikes and a strange 'disease' breaks out that threatens to depopulate the world.
One of the things I love about this book is that it gives us lots of interesting information about daily Amish life. Besides being interesting, this information serves to make Bickle's world very realistic. Which in turn makes the rest of the story all the more horrific when the evil that is ravaging the rest of the world comes knocking at this community's front door.

When
it's clear that world has gone mad and that evil is afoot, the Elders
of Katie's community decide that a ban is needed. And so they declare
that No one may go out; and no one may come in.
Fiesty and compassionate Kate though, sees it as her duty to search for her best friend's brothers, who never came back from their jobs in town. And when a young man that arrives, half dead from his escape from a university, she can't turn her back on him.
