This book is interesting because it covers the missing years in Anna's and Elsa's lives, a period of time that wasn't mentioned in the movie.

Alternating view points --shown in different colored text -- the sisters talk about their teen years where each sister developed their own interests and way of doing things.  Elsa, for example, liked to read books.  Anna, on the other hand, liked to be outside and she loved horseback riding.
